Jana Still Professional Bio

Jana Still is a Human Resource professional with experience spanning across public, private, and academic sectors and who values people.  She strives to improve employee engagement and employee development in every organization she works. Jana’s work philosophy is, “People are your number one resource; but, you only get out of people what you put into them, so if you don’t invest in your people, you should not expect much in return.”

Jana is currently the Director of Human Resources for the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners where she plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises the activities of the Human Resource Department which include labor relations, employee relations, benefits procurement and administration, training and development, recruiting and personnel selection, classification and compensation, policy development, and records management.

Prior to joining Escambia County, Jana served as Senior Personnel Classification and Assessment Specialist at the Mobile County Personnel Board, where she advised city and county municipalities concerning personnel assessment development and selection, leadership, EEOC compliance, organizational and employee development, as well as employee relations and retention. She has also consulted for other local government municipalities as well as private sector organizations in these areas as well as conducted leadership coaching and served as a change agent.

Jana is currently an adjunct professor at the University of South Alabama where she teaches Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, and General Psychology. She earned a Master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of West Florida and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of South Alabama.
